Our district-wide goal is to create a school environment that is focused on learning, limits distractions in the classroom, and improves overall student engagement, mental health, and well-being. 

Please be aware that only school-issued Chromebooks will be allowed for use during the school day and no other electronic devices (Cell phone, smart watches, smart glasses, personal computers, etc.) will be allowed. Students are allowed to bring their cell phones to school and use them before and after school, and during passing periods, brunch, and lunch. The only time students are not permitted to have their phones out is during class time each period.

Upon entering class each period, students will store their cell phones in the classroom cabinet. Each student is assigned a specific slot number in each class cabinet. Once class begins, the teacher locks the cabinet to keep all phones securely stored. Students retrieve their phones as they leave class at the end of each period. 
Students who do not store their phones, and are found with them during class time — either in or out of the classroom — will have their phones confiscated and will be able to pick them up at the end of the day. Consequences increase with repeated violations:

• 1st offense: The Assistant Principal confiscates the phone; your student can pick it up in the main office at the end of the school day.
• 2nd offense: Same as above, and a parent/guardian is contacted.
• 3rd offense and beyond: The Assistant Principal confiscates the phone and contacts the parent/guardian. Only a parent or guardian may pick up the phone, and a conference with the parent/guardian/student may be scheduled.

Students who need to keep their phone on them for medical reasons, have a documented IEP/504 accommodation requiring a phone, or do not own a phone should contact their Assistant Principal for a phone pass.  This pass will be placed in the student’s assigned slot during each period.

Student safety is always our first priority.  In the event of an emergency evacuation, the phone cabinet will remain locked to ensure all students and staff evacuate as quickly as possible. 

This process supports students in focusing on learning during class. We ask that each student store their phone in the cabinet each period, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation with your child. This policy is in effect starting on the first day of the 2026-2027 school year.

Can my student bring their phone to school?

Yes. Students may bring their phones to school and use them before and after school, and during passing periods, brunch, and lunch. The only time phones need to be put away is during class time each period.

What happens to phones during class?

At the start of each period, students place their phone in their own assigned, numbered slot in a locking cabinet in the classroom. The teacher gives one reminder, then locks the cabinet before instruction begins. Students get their phone back at the end of the period as they leave class.

Why is the school doing this?

The goal is to help students stay focused on learning during class time, using a consistent, easy-to-follow routine in every classroom.

When does this start?

What if my student left their phone at home?

Students who forgot their phone at home get a "day pass" from the main office and place that in their slot — they still need to be on time to class.

What if my student doesn't own a phone?
Students who do not own a phone should see their Assistant Principal.

What happens if my student is seen with their phone during class?

The teacher gives one reminder at the start of class to store phones. After that, if a student is seen with their phone — in class, holding it, or using it teachers will report it to the Assistant Principal. If students are using their phones in the bathrooms or hallways during class, students will automatically face the 3rd offense consequences.

What are the consequences?

Consequences increase with repeated violations:

Once the phone is confiscated, can my student get it back sooner — like at lunch?

No. Once an Assistant Principal or Campus Supervisor takes a phone, it is not returned until the end of the school day — students do not have access to it during break, lunch, or passing periods.

Is the school or teacher responsible if a phone is lost, damaged, or stolen while it's stored in the cabinet?

Per district policy, the teacher and school are not responsible for lost property. That said, if a student takes another student's phone from the cabinet, that is treated as theft and the student responsible will face discipline.

What if I need to reach my student during class for a family emergency?
Call the Main Office. Staff will relay the message to your student or pull them out of class as needed.

What if my student needs to make an emergency phone call during class?

They should go to the Main Office to place the call.

What happens to the phone cabinets during a fire drill or emergency evacuation?

The cabinets stay locked during an evacuation so that all students and staff can leave the building as quickly and safely as possible. Student safety always comes first.

Are smartwatches allowed during class?

Smartwatches are not permitted during instructional time. Students should store their smartwatch in their backpack during class. If a student doesn't comply, the teacher will notify the Assistant Principal.

What if my student is late to class after phones have already been collected?
Tardy students place their phone in a location the teacher has designated for latecomers, or the teacher briefly unlocks the cabinet so they can use their assigned slot.

Can my student take another student's phone out of the cabinet for them?

No — students should only handle their own phone. Taking another student's phone from the cabinet is considered theft and results in discipline.
